The Jumeirah Mosque is one of the most photographed buildings in Dubai. It is the only Islamic place of worship in the city to open its doors to non-Muslims, and is located a short distance from Jumeirah Beach in the district of the same name.
Amidst all the glittering skyscrapers and glamorous atmosphere of Dubai, there is still a strong current of humility among the population of the Muslim faith, which is revealed by visiting the Jumeirah Mosque. It is a very important place in the city, and at sunset it becomes a really interesting monument thanks to its truly impressive lighting.
The Sheikh Mohammed Center for Cultural Understanding, or SMCCU, organises tours and visits to the Jumeirah Mosque six days a week, Saturday to Thursday, at 10am. No booking is necessary, but it is best to be at the entrance of the mosque at least 15 minutes in advance. The tour, which is more of a recount of the highlights than an actual visit, lasts approximately one hour and 15 minutes.
Remember to wear clothes that do not leave any part of your body uncovered (however, traditional clothes are available at the entrance for those who need them). Definitely unusual for a mosque, it is possible to take pictures inside the building, so don’t forget to bring a camera.
The tour has been running since 2006, and thanks to it, the Jumeirah Mosque has become the focal point of the ‘Open doors. Open Minds‘, to spread cultural diversity in the city. Visitors during the visit will have the opportunity to learn about UAE culture and religion in a jovial and colloquial atmosphere.
In the event that it is not possible to take part in the guided tour, the possibility is also given to visit the Jumeirah Mosque privately, but to do so one must first contact the organisers.
It is worth noting that there is a charge for the guided tour, even if it is only a few pennies. Children under the age of 12 get in free.
The Jumeirah Mosque is located near the district’s public beach, right in front of the Dubai Marine Beach Resort and Spa.
Like any destination in this neighbourhood, the metro is never the ideal choice, as the nearest stop, in this case World Trade Center on the Red Line, is over 3 kilometres away. The best thing to do is to use one of the public buses that run along Jumeirah Road, or once off the metro take a taxi.
In case you choose to reach the Jumeirah Mosque with a rental car, the area is full of free parking spaces.
City Card allow you to save on public transport and / or on the entrances to the main tourist attractions.
