The Dubai Fish Market, also known as Deira Fish Market, is the best place in town to buy fresh fish, and at the same time a very interesting place to visit, a little off the beaten track but one that will certainly give you a chance to appreciate the real Dubai life, beyond the luxury resorts and private beaches of five-star hotels.
There are hundreds of vendors offering a huge variety of fish and seafood, both caught in the warm waters of the Persian Gulf and from more distant seas. Alongside the fish stalls, there are also special areas to buy meat, fruit and vegetables.
Lovers of fish and cuisine in general will certainly find the fish market one of the most interesting places to visit in Dubai. There are hundreds of fish species for sale, from sharks to exotic fish, from giant shrimps to specimens never seen or heard of in our parts.
This is why the Dubai Fish Market is also one of the best places in town for photography enthusiasts: the fish are colourful and the men and women working inside are happy to be photographed in their daily activities.
The Dubai Fish Market is open every day of the week, from 5am to 1pm and from 5pm to 11pm. Naturally, the freshest produce arrives at first light, and it is at this time of day that the city’s best restaurants stock up.
The Dubai Fish Market is located along the Corniche Road in the Deira district, near the Gold Souk and the Al Shindaga Tunnel.
To get there, simply take the green metro line and get off at the Palm Deira stop, marked number 22, which will presumably soon change its name as the Palm Deira project has been transformed into Deira Islands, or arrive by bus, which is very close to the Gold Souk stop. Those arriving by car can use the large public car park adjacent to the market.
Despite its efficiency and importance in the urban economy, the Dubai Fish Market will be replaced in the coming years by a new market, currently under construction in the Al Hamriya area, near the hospital. It will be a two-storey building with a total area of 120,000 square metres, which in addition to the fish market will also house fruit, vegetable and spice stalls, as well as a supermarket and several bars and restaurants.
City Card allow you to save on public transport and / or on the entrances to the main tourist attractions.
